Today was the first day back to school after the Christmas break for my kids. Not long after dropping them off does my phone buzz with a notification that there has been yet another school shooting, this time in Iowa. The first day back in 2024 and already a shooting. I am so angry. We are failing our children.

I am just sick. I read a quote this evening from DeSantis that, paraphrasing, was basically it is a state and local problem. No! It’s and everyone problem and it needs to be addressed at all the levels of government. I can’t fathom how people can say that its not their problem. Not one of those families in Iowa went about their morning routine thinking that this time it was going to be their children in harms way. We can’t live knowing that each day we send our kids off to school with a kiss that it might be the last time.

Each one of us needs to do what we can to stop these situations. Vote, vote, vote. Write to your legislatures. Speak up to those around you. Create art that makes people uncomfortable with the status quo of allowing our children to be victims of this violence.

How many more dead children will it take before enough is enough?
