Some days when I feel a little stuck or uninspired, I go to my old standby of Pears. I love their shape, color, texture, taste… I have drawn, painted and sculpted various forms of pears, therefore I seldom require a reference, so it is a great standby for me when I’m feeling down or unmotivated. I can draw them on whatever paper I have on hand and utilize whichever media is handy. I’ve used my kids’ Crayola markers in bold colors, sidewalk chalk on the sun warmed driveway, watercolor, oil pastels, acrylics and clay.

Today was filled to the brim and were it not for my goal of creating art everyday, I likely would not have squeezed in some sketch time. It only took a few minutes to whip up this quick sketch of a trio of pears. I like how it turned out so since I used a Copic Multiliner on watercolor paper, I may go back and apply a watercolor wash at a later time.

I really quite like the Copic warm grey 0.1 pen. It looks very pencil like when sketching with it but as its both waterproof and Copic proof I can embellish it as I see fit. I prefer to sketch in ink, but as I can sometimes be heavy handed the warm grey makes it a dream to use. I get nice light marks that I can later deepen as I choose.
