I have been so busy lately that I haven’t had a chance to play with the materials in this month’s SketchBox. As part of my last year’s New Years resolution to make more art, I signed up for the Sketchbox Subscription. This has been great for me to experiment with different materials and techniques than those to which I usually adhere.
This months box had toned paper, charcoal, pastels and som pastel pencils that I used to make a quick drawing this evening. I used the general motif from Rooted in Sorrow, but instead of having the figure turning into a tree I decided to make her on fire. I don’t usually use such movable mediums so I kept accidentally smudging areas and having to go back and add detail.
All in all, I’m happy with it overall for the time I spent on it. I decided to stop when my additions seemed to be making things worse. Sometimes less is more, lol.
What mediums have you experimented with lately?
