Fruity Loops, Jacquelyn Block

I had the idea for today’s painting while I was lying in my bed last night. Yesterday’s abstract with the colors running horizontally and vertically was fun, but I thought something more curvy would be good for a next attempt. This watercolor turned out pretty close to what I dreamt up last night, which is unusual for me when it comes to abstract art. I often end up with a product that is something of a surprise to me.

That is not to say I had planned out where and how the circles would fall. It was very much a meditative process laying down the paint circles. I went from color to color without rinsing my brush very much in between circles. I had fun playing with the colors and circles and it was a nice way to wind down my mind this evening. And it is so cold and white outside, the bright colors help warm my thoughts, too.

I haven’t decided on which orientation I am going to use, so I am holding off adding my signature at this point. I am leaning to the landscape format above, but plan on setting it out tomorrow and rotating it throughout the day to make my final call. I’ve changed my mind too late before, so I like to sign it only when I’m certain. Yesterday’s piece spoke very loudly to me so I didn’t need the longer deliberation process.

Have you signed an artwork and later wished you had waited?
