Underglaze experiment recovery

Wednesday evenings I take a pottery class at the Anton Art Center. I started taking classes just before the pandemic hit. I was instantly addicted. I love the whole process of making ceramic art, whether on the wheel or hand building. My shoulder has been giving me grief for a while now so I’ve been mainly hand building lately. I love experimenting and trying new things and today I attempted to apply underglazes to the above piece with a gelli printing plate. The experiment did not work, but I think I managed to salvage the piece by adding more glaze with a brush. It is still in greenware stage so I can touch it up before its final firing if needed.

I also worked on other projects; catching up on some glazing and starting a few new pieces. I made a couple succulents. I made quite a few a few years ago for gifts, but haven’t made any in two years. I also made a textured tray. I use texture rollers of my own design so they are unique to me. I have a rectangular tray that I use all the time for cheese and crackers. I thought I may glaze this one to match and I’ll have a set.

I have so much fun making little things too. I made a realistic blueberry a couple months ago so with some scrap clay I decided to start a strawberry to keep the blueberry company. Maybe eventually I’ll have enough to fill a berry bowl.

Have you taken a pottery class before?
