Grandma’s Irises, Jacquelyn Block

Today was a busy artsy day for me. I had two openings, the Michigan Annual at Anton and the Today’s Weather at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Since I couldn’t attend both at the same time my mom generously represented me at the Grosse Pointe show and accepted my honorable mention on my behalf.

Thank you mom!

And although I didn’t win any of the awards at the Michigan Annual just getting into the show was quite competitive- 260 entries for forty-seven selections.

With the Michigan Annual fresh on my mind I was reminded of a painting in last year’s show of irises. The purple irises reminded me of my grandmother who had some in her beautiful garden. So tonight I tried to capture the beauty of her flowers.

What art have you seen or made that reminded you of a loved one?
