Ceramic flower with glaze added, ready to fire.

Today at the pottery studio I spent my time glazing my flower pieces, two succulents and the small player I made a couple weeks back. As is usual for me my small pieces like these take a good chunk of time to glaze. With all the petals, getting in all the tight nooks and crannies was quite a challenge. It can be quite meditative though once you get into the groove.

For my succulents I usually glaze them with a high fire glossy glaze, mostly in shades of green. Today since I was planning on using the underglaze on the flower stems I figured I might as well use it for the succulent leaves as well. I was debating applying a clear coat over the underglaze but decided to leave it be. When it comes out of the kiln it will be a little duller and won’t have that glossy look to it. I’m eager to see how they turn out.

The last piece I glazed tonight was the platter and it was the easiest by far. Three coats of chun plum in alternating directions and a little time between each coat to let the previous one dry.

I was able to deliver the rest of my handmade Valentine’s cards today. I would share the pictures but apparently I forgot to take them when the cards were completed.

I wish all of you a happy Valentine’s Day and a rewarding and reflective Lenten season, if you celebrate.

In what creative activities have you participated lately?
