Today I decided I wanted to paint from one of my photos on my phone. I decided I wanted to have a tree in the painting, so I searched through my photo app for trees. I came across a series of pictures I took of my daughter at Whaby Park. It is a beautiful area with ponds, fountains, gazebos, columns and my favorite, weeping willow trees. I chose one of the photos of her standing against the willow tree.

Since this was on a small 4×6 paper I chose to make it impressionistic and didn’t add to many details to my daughter’s figure in the painting. It’s a nice composition so I might choose to make a larger painting of this in the future. I can’t decide if I prefer painting birch trees or willow trees. They are both beautiful to me.
What is your favorite tree to paint?
