Today was a very art centered day for me. I started off the day with the Gallery Talk and opening of the Welcome to Detroit Show with the Grosse Pointe Artist Association. My whole family was able to attend with me which was nice. My son was the subject of one of my pieces so he was a bit shy and extra clingy, but was proud of his inclusion in the show. The show will be running through May 3rd, concurrently with our club’s show, My Favorites, at the War Memorial. If you are local to the Detroit area, you should check out the shows. Entry is free!

This evening my mom and I attended the preview of a film in production, Unlocking Desire by Barbara Neri. We were treated to the preview, some of the scenes that have been shot and edited as well as a song recorded for the film. The presentation was great and I can’t wait to see the finished film.

After the presentation there were cookies from Sister Pie, and the gluten free Buckwheat chocolate chip cookies were the best cookies I’ve had in ages. I’m told the gluten cookies were equally fantastic. I’m definitely going to be checking them out in person soon.
After getting home my youngest was still awake and wanted to paint with me. He painted a scene from his favorite video game and I decided to paint an apple and two pears using all the colors in my me watercolor palette, except black and white, which I hardly ever use. I like how it turned out. This is my version of swatching. I much rather create something while experimenting with new colors than just paint squares. I do the same with my test tiles in pottery.
