Giraffe all glazed and ready to fire.

Today I spent the entire three hours in the pottery studio working on glazing my giraffe sculpture. As I was, maybe a quarter of the way through I remembered that during this process of making my zebra sculpture last year, I vowed that I was never going to do something so tedious again. Apparently, I forgot about that promise to myself.

Me adding each spot with a paint brush.

Every so often I would need to look up and stretch, focus my eyes on something in the distance and take a sip of my tea. I have a feeling I’m going to feel the tension in my neck and back tomorrow. But all complaining aside, I think he turned out quite well. I’m eager to see him after he comes through the final fire and I can bring him home. He can keep my zebra company.

In addition to the giraffe, my gear bowl also came out of the bisque kiln unscathed, although I didn’t have time to glaze it today. I did bring home a few completed pieces including my little robot and the flower bowl I made with the tortilla press slabs. I also like how my little kitty turned out as well as the cup I had made for a friend. The last time we got together she mentioned how her coffee mug was accidentally broken by her family so I made her one. She has been having a rough time lately and I hope this mug will help lift her spirits a bit.

Is there a style of art that you find really tedious, but do it anyway?
