Early Bloomer, Jacquelyn Block

Today’s snowy spring day had me thinking about that line tulip bloom I photographed yesterday. Hundreds of buds and only one was brave enough to bloom into this crazy world at this crazy time. Then is had hail yesterday and snow today, so maybe more foolish than brave but I admire its spirit nonetheless.

I decided I wanted to paint it but when I went to grab my warm grey multiplier for the initial sketch I came across this bright orange brush pen and thought, hey, I’ll give that a try. It is very different than what I initially had in mind but I really like the contrast of the orange with the green and yellow. I think it might have been a bit boring if I stuck with plan A.

Do you allow yourself to change up your plan when the whim strikes?
