Four Tulips, Jacquelyn Block

During our art club’s Zoom with June this morning I started working on an experimental watercolor inspired by the morning’s rainy weather. While waiting for my very wet layers to dry I decided to start another of my orange ink paintings. My tulips are up and on the verge of blooming, so I used a picture from last spring to sketch out the tulip blossoms.

As I was taking the picture for this post I realized that I never painted in a background for this. The rest of the painting in this series have a colored background so I think I’ll need to go back and fill it in. The back and forth between paintings is good in keeping me from rushing the next layer before the previous one has dried, but I do sometimes forget things, like the background in this case.

I still have a ways to go on the experimental piece, so hopefully I can share my progress later this week.

Do you prefer the look of a background painted in or do you like the white paper behind the subject?
