Today started out grey and rainy but the windy afternoon brought us warm weather and sunshine. The lilacs are so close to blooming. I took some photos of them, the blue sky and evening sun really brought out the deep purple of the flower buds. In a few days it will look and smell wonderful!
I was out with my son today running errands and he was just mesmerised by the little petals raining down around us. At first he thought they were pieces of paper so I tried catching one for him. Let me tell you it is far easier to catch snowflakes than flower petals! But I finally caught one for him and he loved it. Then he asked if it was safe to eat. Six year olds- am I right?!?

I can’t wait for the lilacs to bloom so I can make one of my orange ink series for them. I’ve been tempted to use a photo from a previous year, but I’ve been trying to paint only the flowers I am seeing in bloom currently for that series. Maybe I am putting too many rules on myself, but that is part of the fun and challenge of this series for me.

As the sun was setting the clouds were illuminated from behind in an interesting way. Sunrises are a bit more photogenic over the lake around here, but this sunset was pretty spectacular.
Does your area have better sunrises or sunsets?
