So I thought for tonight I’d throw some paint around and then sketch over it before adding more watercolor for depth and detail. But I got the paper really wet in the first step and since the time is ticking away and it’s not drying fast enough I was bored. I snapped a few photos of the wet WIP and of my palette and pulled them up in photoshop while I was waiting.

After the first composite was done, the paint was still quite wet so I added another couple layers.I added a couple of pictures of steam engine parts from my latest visit to the Henry Ford Museum.

Checked again- still too damp for the next step. I’ll have to revisit this painting tomorrow. It’s late and I’m tired, but one last layer on the composite photo.

I heavily modified a photo of one of my ceramic sculptures for addition to this layer. the texture of the piece was good but I played around a little with the colors to bring back some of the vibrancy that had faded. It’s not what I set out to make tonight but sometimes you just need to make do.
Have you ever experimented with composite photography?
