Fountain Fun, Jacquelyn Block

Since this week it’s just my son and I while the rest of the family is up in Oscoda, I have a little shadow behind me wherever I go. Sometimes quite literally – he often hides behind me when I’m talking to someone he doesn’t know very well. Six is a fun age. They are such a mix of contradictions; one minute he’s cowering behind me and the very next hamming it up so I can take pictures of him.

The reason we were at the War Memorial this afternoon was to drop off my pieces that are included in the Ode to Mother Earth show that’s opening Thursday.

Coneflower Buzz, Jacquelyn Block
Rooted in Grief, Jacquelyn Block

I’m very excited that my Rooted in Grief was accepted into this show. It has such personal meaning to me and I really love it. It was a little discouraging that it was rejected from a few shows I entered. But that’s art for you- it’s so subjective what gets into a show. Especially a piece like this probably needs to resonate on a more personal level for the juror.

Do you have an artwork that you love but doesn’t get the recognition you would like it to receive?
