Today was the first of our summer paint-outs with the Lakeside Palette Club. We met at the zoo’s fountain and started by sketching there together before branching out on our own and meeting back up for pizza at Buddy’s.

There were plenty of beautiful animals and flowers that I took pictures of to use in later paintings. We visited the dinosaur exhibit and took a ride on the carousel all before it was time to meet up for lunch.

In the evening my son spent some time with his aunt while I went to pottery.

The coral sculpture I started last week was ready to be bisque fired. It has a lot of delicate bits so I like to document each step, as there are no guarantees it’ll make it through the process. I also glazed my second gear face sculpture. A black rub and scrub, to which I’ll add gold after the glaze fire.

I spent the rest of the time glazing old pieces which have been sitting on my shelf for years. I managed to get all but two pieces done before it was time to clean up. It felt good to get those pieces finished. I can’t even remember what I was thinking with some of them.
It felt good clearing out my old work and taking the last steps of the process today. I really ought to dedicate a day or two to finishing some of my partially completed watercolor paintings soon.
Do you have a habit of letting your not-quite-complete projects linger in limbo for months or even years?
