Playtime Process, Jacquelyn Block

Tonight I got a late start on my art making as my husband got home from his week away significantly later than I was expecting and I told my little guy he could stay up until dad got home. And then dad brought donuts for him and we had to wash up and re-brush the teeth until finally I could create some art. And what do I decide to do? Something where I have to be patient and wait for the paint and inks to dry. While waiting I decided to take some pictures of my process and realized that they look pretty interesting using different filters.

I might use these for another project sometime. Maybe a composite photo or a cyanotype.

What I’m doing tonight is first I applied watercolor to the background in blues and greens. Then arranged the rubber bands on top, before dropping yellow and purple acrylic inks and some white India ink. Then I decided I wanted some more texture and threw some course salt on top.

Wow this is taking a long time to dry. Even with the fan overhead on full, I think I might have to wait until tomorrow to share the end result. I am really proud though, that I am waiting instead of rushing it and ruining it in my haste.

What projects have you ruined because you were in a rush?
