Where Sky Meets Water, Jacquelyn Block

I decided to practice some waterscape painting today. I could use practice on painting water and the sky so this works for both. The waves on Lake St Clair are usually much choppier, but I was trying out a technique I read about when painting farmland and how to put the rows of crops at an angle for more interesting paintings. I figured the same could be applied to water. It does look more interesting than previous paintings I’ve attempted. I did a similar thing with the sky but much less dramatic. My next attempt I might add some boats in the water and birds in the air.

Living in Michigan provides plenty of water inspiration; do you have bodies of water around you to paint?

    This is lovely! Well done!

I agree that using angles for water makes for a more interesting composition. I like to add waves to mine.

The province where I live (Manitoba, Canada) has 100,000 lakes and numerous bodies of water. So, if you get out of the city, you are likely to meet a few.
