Autumn Stroll, Jacquelyn Block

This morning for our Zoom with June, I wanted to paint some birch trees. There is a Black and White themed show coming up with the GPAA and I have some photographs that will work but I have had good luck with my watercolors lately and wanted to make something that could work for that. There is quite a bit of color in the painting as a whole, but the black and white birch trees I hope with fit the theme. It might be refreshing to have a colorful piece amongst predominantly monochrome works. It all depends on the juror, and how they interpret the theme and how it speaks to them. I like it at least. I love birch trees and I am proud of how they turned out. About halfway through I was ready to give up. Painting all the black details on the trunks became so tedious, but I persevered.

Conic Light Show 2.2, Jacquelyn Block

I’m happy to share that my photograph, Conic Light Show 2.2 was accepted into the PCCA’s Art of Abstraction show. The show opens on August 3rd and runs until August 24th. If you are local to SE Michigan you can check it out in person at the Paint Creek Center for the Arts on Pine St in Rochester.

I realize that it’s really only the very start of summer here and I’m painting a fall scene. I often seem to be looking forward to the next season. Maybe I should do a few of my orange ink paintings to get myself back in the here and now. I only allow myself to paint currently blooming flowers for that particular series.

Do you find you create art in alignment with the time of year, or do you jump around a lot like me?

    Both pieces are lovely!

Yeah, I’m like you. When it comes to painting, I don’t care about the season. I just want to focus on something that strikes my fancy at the moment.
