Today was supposed to be our art club’s Paint-out at George George Park, but the weather didn’t cooperate. The rain really was coming down, about 2 inches in just a couple hours. Our street was flooded much of the afternoon but thankfully our basement stayed dry. I could hear our sump pump kicking on periodically throughout the afternoon.
Naturally, the rain inspired my art this evening. I was experimenting with some water based ink brush pens. As I started making the marks and blocking in the color I decided it looked like an urban landscape with the evening setting sun reflecting off the wet surfaces. When I showed it to my husband her guessed that it was a dwarven fortress, then a river through a forest. Once I told him what I saw, he could see it too. I even put in the Renaissance Center in there to set it on Detroit’s waterfront. It’s subtle, but I know it’s there.
How often do you find yourself influenced by the weather?
