Lights-out selfie fun, Jacquelyn Block

I had a very creatively productive morning and afternoon. I will not be sharing that with you just yet as it’s a surprise for a friend who reads this blog every day. So I had planned on working on another watercolor this evening once my little guy was in bed. And then just before bedtime the power goes out. So rather than struggle with painting in flickering candlelight, I used some of my precious phone battery to take some selfies and play around in the photoshop express app.

I also decided to play around with my thistle watercolor in the app. I really liked how it turned out. Honestly, I like power outages a little- as long as it’s not extremely hot or cold weather and it’s only out for an hour or two. It’s fun to light up the oil lamps and candles.

That might have made a good entry into the GPAA’s Black and White show. Maybe next time. Instead I will be showing two of my photographs, Belle Isle Koi Pond and Conservatory and Misty Morning. The show opens with the Gallery Talk on Thursday 6:30pm at the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe. If you are local you should check it out, and if not visit the online gallery here.

How do you find ways to enjoy the occasional power outage?
