So today I had no plan for what I was going to make at the pottery studio, but once I started to work the clay I began forming a pinch pot. When I looked at the outside of the bowl the cracks and lines reminded me a bit of suture lines on a skull. And with the macabre fresh on my mind from my painting the other day I made by bowl into a skull. Since I wasn’t carving in the lower jaw I decided to make a separate mandible to display next to it. Once finished I posed the bowl atop the mandible and it fit perfectly. He suddenly was a cute skull bowl. I decided that I’ll fire them together so hopefully they will fit together when finished. After that, I thought might as well make a more realistic skull, too. I think I’ll have some nice Halloween decorations, although I already have someone interested in. Purchasing the bowl.

After the skulls I decided to switch gears and make a silly little bird. I made him some fiddly feet, which fell off and I reattached, so we will see if they make it through the process. I had a small amount of scrap clay left which I rolled into a coil to make these two rings. I will probably use them for necklace pendants. I decorated the rings with the end and side of an Allen wrench I found in the bottom of my tool bag.
