Museums are Better with Friends, Jacquelyn Block

Our basement flooded a bit in the heavy rains overnight. Since I was up cleaning up the mess and working to get the water out for a good chunk of the night I wasn’t sure I would be able to paint this morning for Zoom with June. I don’t know why today was the day I decided to paint a picture with my friend Brianscotte, who passed away last fall. While in my grief journey, I have painted many pictures dealing with my grief and sadness and loss, I haven’t had the strength to paint my friend until this morning. Maybe it was my sleep deprived brain, but it was a good thing. I actually have several pictures I’d like to paint of him, but I chose this one from our visit to the Henry Ford Museum a few years ago- the three of us. I took this picture of my friends in front of the trains, and the photo has a lot of shadows and textures to it. I decided to keep the painting on the impressionist side and not go crazy on the details in the faces.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, for the month of August, I am using my closing question as a daily inspirational theme that you can use to create something in your medium of choice. If you do, I’d love to see what you make and can even share it on a future blog post if you’d like.

In my painting there are literal trains behind my subjects, but what images does the word ‘train’ bring to you?
