Railroad Swing Bridge over the Hudson River, Jacquelyn Block

Here is my first attempt at painting the swing bridge, which I photographed while driving through Albany last month. I don’t do much architectural painting, primarily because I don’t like all the strait lines and all, but this bridge was just begging to be painted. I have a few pictures of buildings and bridges I have flagged to paint, so after I have those done, I plan on retrying this one.

I knew that I wasn’t going to be satisfied with this attempt, but the only way to improve is by practice. Painting daily helps me to feel brave enough to be bad at something new.

In what way can you incorporate the theme bridge into your creative practice today?
