Me during my art sale, by June Nash

Today was another on and off rainy day for our Art and lemonade sale. After a slow first hour my son’s lemonade stand started getting a few customers. I was still without a sale until my mom stopped by and bought a ceramic pig figure. I decided to make the most of my slow sales to paint a large abstract pear. It’s big- 36×48. It was funny; each time I’d start working on it, it would start to rain. This cycle continued and eventually I carried it into the tent to finish it up.

In the last stretch of the sale I finally had some sales! They were all happy and excited with their art purchases and that made my weekend worthwhile. I really enjoy connecting with my community and sharing my art. They said I could share the pictures of them with their purchases.

While the rain this year certainly impacted the number of people walking through, I had a fun weekend. I hope to participate again next year. The advertising on instagram and facebook didn’t seem to draw anyone in to the sale who wouldn’t have come anyway, so I won’t worry about focusing on that for the week or two leading up to the sale. A single post should be just as effective.

I used my mural paints for the sign yesterday and the pear painting today. They worked really well on the canvas, stayed wet long enough to blend colors while painting, but dried quickly enough that I could add the next layer in a reasonable time. Now I just need a couple days of nice weather, where I’m not busy, to paint the mural on my garage.

Pears are my go-to thing to paint when I’m experimenting with something new or I’m up against a creative block; how can pears inspire your creativity today?
