A bounty of finished pieces, Jacquelyn Block

Today was a good clay day form me. I had a great haul of finished work to bring home, including my skull bowl and the skull sculpture. I also had two face sculptures ready, a pear, a couple pendant rings and a rustic bowl.

I really liked the way the floral face turned out. The lace pattern and the bright underglazes worked really well for it. I had a few more bisque pieces to glaze, including my open abstract pear and the square coil bowl. I also glazed the owl sculpture my son made when he came with me to studio-sit a couple weeks ago.

We couldn’t stay too long to is morning because we had the opening for the Artist’s Choice show at Anton. I didn’t get a piece in this show, but I was there to support my fellow club members. Later in the afternoon we went to our second opening, this one at the Chloe Monroe Galleries on John R in Detroit. It was a fantastic show with some really amazing art. I was very honored that one of my watercolors was chosen to be in this show beside such beautiful artworks. If you have a chance to see this show I highly recommend it.

In this picture on the bottom right is a girl with a sunflower- that is layers of cut paper. Each color in the image is a separate cut paper including the artist’s signature. You step back and it looks like a painting. This artist had two pieces in this style in the show. The other one was exceptional as well.

Halloween is a big deal in Michigan, and there are Halloween displays up in store the beginning of August. As a potter, the turnaround time for finished pieces requires that I make my holiday themed pieces in advance by at least a month or more. I suppose I should start on pumpkins and ghosts soon too.

How can Halloween inspire your spooky creativity this month?
