Heron wall sculpture-wip, Jacquelyn Block

Today I dropped off my sculptures for the Art Takeover event at Posterity Gallery in Grosse Pointe, then drove out to Rochester to pick up my Conic Light Show photograph that was part of the Art of Abstraction show at Paint Creek.

I didn’t have a lot of time left this afternoon but I did manage to get into the studio and glaze my succulent sculpture. I then decided to work on something small and simple. But I failed to heed my own advice and went big and fiddly. The heron sculpture above was just wanting to be made. Yesterday I spent a while observing the heron at Milliken State Park and I just went for it. The clay is pretty wet so I covered it in plastic and will come back to add details and smooth it out, as well as hollow out the body next week after the holiday.

My mural paint shipment came today undamaged, so I might start the bathroom mural this weekend. I think I’ll sketch out the design with Posca markers first so I can get a feel of where everything will go on the slanted walls and such.

The US celebrates Labor Day this weekend; do you have any big art projects planned for this weekend?
