Today was our last day at camp so I only had a little time to work on the final touches for the mural, and clean everything up. I was able to get the two horses and riders painted in, fixing the proportions on the one horse from my initial sketch. I was able to paint over the posca marker from the initial sketch and shorten the horse so it looks much more realistic. I also added a bit of shadow beneath both horses so they don’t look like they’re just floating there.

Once I got the horses painted, I painted the apples in the tree and added a nest with eggs and a robin watching over them. I am happy with my progress over the weekend. I think I impressed everyone at camp with how much I got done in such a short time. I’m definitely feeling it in my arms and legs though!

I feel very happy with my mural and was very proud to sign my name to it. On future trips I will probably add small little details, like squirrels and chipmunks and mushrooms, but it is good without them too. My daughter told me that she will be proud to tell people her mom made that mural, when she is working in the barn next summer. That really made me feel good. I raise my kids to speak their mind, so they can sometimes be harsh critics of my art. So when they all love it, I know it passes muster.
I loved working on this and am happy to have made a contribution to the history of this 110 year strong camp. It was a weekend well spent.
This has been my biggest art work yet; how can you use your creativity to make something BIG?
