Today I was working on portraits, trying to paint with more intensity and vibrancy. I saw on instagram a portrait of a girl that was backlit, and it was dramatic and striking. After studying the oil painting for a bit, I attempted to create a similar effect with watercolor and a portrait of my older son. It lacks some of the contrast in the oil painting, and I really needed to step back and let it dry. I’ll come back to it later and either add more watercolor or perhaps brighten it up in areas with gouache. Either way I don’t think it is ready to be finished as it is.
