Sunset snowman, Jacquelyn Block

Today I was not sure what to paint so I looked around my living room for inspiration. I have random artworks hanging in my living room, pieces from a recent show, future shows, things that I have hanging for safekeeping… Among the art was a snowman painting I did for the library tiny art show last winter. I decided to create a large watercolor snowman inspired by this small acrylic painting.

Inspirational painting, Jacquelyn Block

It was across the room so the 4” painting wasn’t giving me a lot of detail, so I just started painting. I may have benefited from sketching out the snowman first, but I was ready to jump right in.

Other than a rather thick cap and a horizon that doesn’t line up on either side of the snowman, I think it looks pretty neat. It definitely is bright and bold like I wanted.

The last few years we haven’t had much big snowfalls. The almanac is predicting a frigid and wet winter so I think this will be a good year for snowmen building. My six year old is eager for snowman building.

Do you build snowmen when you have enough snowfall?
