Nevermore, Jacquelyn Block

Today was my last day this year dressing up for Halloween festivities. We had the pleasure of attending our friends’ Halloween party where they went all out on spooky decorations. I got this picture, and I loved the way the shadows fall. I decided I liked it even better in black and white.

Earlier today I went to the opening of Squirrel Shenanigans, a show and a book centered around a squirrel theme. A lot of the poets in the book came and read their poetry. It was a really cool experience. While all these poems were being read, a thought popped into my head- an idea for a new story. I’m not sure whether this would be a book or a screenplay but my character would only speak in poems. I still have a lot to hash out story wise, but I’ll try to dream on it tonight.

Did I ever mention my dreaming process when coming up with stories? I take all the fragmented ideas I have and think them over when I go to bed. Then more times than not my brain starts filling in the missing pieces. Often I’ll wake with a pretty good idea of how to plan out my story.

Do you use dreams to aid in your creative process?
