Fall Splendor #1, Jacquelyn Block

Today my youngest son and I took a leaf printing class with Nobuko Yamasaki at the GPAA. Leif had a lot of fun, although we had a little meltdown when I accidentally broke one of his dry leaves while helping him ink the leaf. He eventually recovered, and we continued with our prints. In fact, he later insisted I use the offending leaf, and I put green over the red that dried on the leaf already. It turned out quite vibrant and opaque; see if you can spot it in the prints below.

These are on cans on watercolor postcards, so I’ll have to see if I can seal up the front on one of them. They are done with gouache for the ink, so if I send it as is and it gets wet, it will reactivate the paint and run and smudge. I have some cold wax that I can use to see how it turns out.

While at the War Memorial , I also picked up the pieces I had in the My Masterpiece show and dropped off the photograph that will be in the next show, Food in Art. I really need to sell some of these pieces or put up more nails in my walls. I don’t have room for everything right now. If you’re interested in buying some of my art, feel free to message me on instagram. Let me know you are my blog follower so I don’t dismiss you as spam.

Have you used found leaves in a recent art work?
