Hunter charcoal, Jacquelyn Block

Tonight I decided to do another charcoal sketch. This stick was a harder charcoal, and I think I preferred yesterday’s softer stick of charcoal. But it’s good to get familiar with all of them if I’m going to be doing a charcoal mixed media series of portraits. The subject for today comes from another of my poems, inspired by hunter’s orange. I wasn’t working from a reference photo on this one, so I need more work on my proportions, but it’s just a first go at this idea. I am not afraid to make a bad piece of art as a stepping stone to something better. For me it’s best for me to just do something, see what I get and then do it again, but better.

Quick selfie with my art

I had a busy art filled day, starting with the Michigan Watercolor Society meeting, then to the opening of the Food in Art show at the Grosse Pointe Artist Association gallery. I took a quick selfie with my art so as not to disrupt the flow of traffic in the hall, but it ended up the only picture of me with my photo from the afternoon. The juror made a little poem for each of the artworks which won awards- that was really unique and a good touch. I’ll have to remember that idea if I ever juror a show!

I also took several good shots today with my favorite filter, and I’d like to share a few of my favorites.

What exciting things are you doing this weekend?
