Today I worked on some ideas for artwork inspired by my friend’s poetry. As part of his birthday present I offered to make some art to go with his writing and he was very excited by the idea. He sent me the first poem last night so I was able to sleep on it and come up with some ideas. His poetry has a lot of visual imagery that lends itself well to artistic interpretation. After some pencil sketches, I used Charcoal and sanguine sketch sticks to create my interpretation of his vision. I then ran that through the filtered light algorithm and I like how that turned out as well. It looks really good in black and white too.

While I’ve done art off my own poems, and written poems inspired by my art, this is my first time doing so with someone else’s writing. It is challenging, but extremely rewarding.
Have you taken inspiration from a friend’s work and made a collaborative piece of art?
