Six Swag

Today after mass, I worked some more on my poetry submissions for the Kresge Literary Arts Fellowship. I have poetry written in different spots on my phone and notebooks and I have art that is inspiration for or inspired by these poems. The time consuming process of reforming them into a word document with the art work and then saving that as a pdf is tedious, but ultimately worth doing, not only for the potential of the Fellowship, but also for if I later want to publish these in a book. There are so many great artists in the Detroit area my odds of getting the fellowship are slim. But the experience of applying is good for me- it is quite empowering to see all my accomplishments written down. I read through my application and think- wow, this person does a lot!

Hood Up Head Down in Reflected Light, Jacquelyn Block

I did find a poem that I hadn’t made an artwork for yet, so I worked on that this afternoon as well. usually I don’t make my reflected light pictures into black and white, but for this poem and image I think it works.

After finishing this up it was time to get ready for Six, playing at the Fisher Theatre. Sadly I left my phone at home so I didn’t get any pictures of the gorgeous Fisher Building as I had planned. But the show was wunderbar! If it comes to a city near you, I’d highly recommend it. The audience had the second highest female to male ratio of any event I’ve attended, edged out only slightly by Tig Notaro’s show a couple years ago.

What was the last live theater event you attended?
