Sleepy pears Ready for the glaze fire, Jacquelyn Block

I glazed my first batch of pear people today at the studio. I had two white clay and two red clay pears so this is a bit of an experiment to see how they turn out. I put a rub and scrub of black underglaze to enhance the details and then applied a few different overglazes with a very light coat. I then rubbed it back a little further. I’m hoping that the glaze will settle into the nooks and crannies and create an interesting effect without obscuring their little faces.

Part of the fun of pottery is never quite knowing how things are going to turn out. So many variables are involved that even if you do the exact same thing twice, you may get drastically different results. Such fun!

I finished my Kresge application this morning and I am so happy to have that done. I am looking forward to going to bed early tonight and not dreaming about filling out the application. Now it’s time to put it out of my mind until the summer when they announce the recipients. So many people apply each year that it’s a long shot, but I can alway hope.

What have you been dreaming about lately?
