Blue Crab, Jacquelyn Block

As the wind is howling and my chimes are singing, I decided to work some more on my crab friend from yesterday. After I finished my quick sketch I looked up some blue crab pictures and found that I did a pretty decent job on the sketch from memory. That gave me the desire to keep working and add some color to my initial line sketch. I had sketched it with a inktense pencil so the lines get activated when wet, but I can blend them a bit when I add that water to them the first time. Once dried it’s permanent so I can layer over it, but it’s not something I can pick up like in traditional watercolor.

For Christmas I received a set of the inktense xl blocks and thought they’d be good to add some color to my crab. The sticks are versatile, you can draw on the paper, use them with a brush grate them into a powder… pretty much anything you can think of. I used them to draw onto the paper and with a brush today. I like them and are eager to try them out in different ways.
