Today I spent a few hours at the studio making myself available to help our artists submit work for our upcoming show. Since no one showed up needing help, I worked on a pastel painting, this time from a photo of my kids in the pool on vacation. This was my third pastel painting, and my first of people in a non-abstract style. Once again, I think it is pretty good for me as a beginner, but there is definitely room for improvement. Practice makes progress! I still have 7 sheets left in my sanded paper pack. I’ll go back and try out the smooth pastel paper when I’ve worked through this batch. From what I read it is easier to end up with muddy colors using the non sanded paper.

I made a filtered light version after I got back home. It’s ok but I like the original better. I got notice that my Sleepy Pears were accepted into the portrait show in addition to my ceramic face wall art. I am super excited to debut my pears to the public. I hope everyone loves them as much as I do. The Artists reception for the Portrait Parlor show is on Thursday March 20th at Posterity Gallery on Kercheval if you are interested in attending. My son thinks they have the best snacks for the openings.
Now we are nearly midway through February, what have been some of your successes this year?
