I have had way more sugar today than I am accustomed and I can feel it. But it is my birthday so I wanted to celebrate it with my friends and family and kids in my religious education class. So that was three waves of cakes and cup cakes and ice cream with the last. So much sugar. But it was great celebrating with my important people so totally worth the sugar jitters.
It did create a little challenge in today’s art though as I was a bit to flourishy and would make my marks bigger and bolder than what I was going for. Also, I was using the pastelmat paper which is not sanded like my Uart paper is. It definitely changes how you blend and layer. But all that aside I do think my heron turned out recognizable as a heron, so I’ll take it. I am still very new to this medium so I give myself some grace.

And here is a filtered light version. Sometimes I like using the filter to determine if my subject stands out from the background as this process needs a defined subject.
What bird should I draw or paint next?
