My orchid sculpture survived the bisque fire nearly intact. A leaf and one of the air roots broke off, but it looks fine without them I think. I glazed them and will glue them on if needed, but I don’t anticipate needing to do so. Leaves get cut or broken in nature too. It is still not a sure thing, but I’m allowing myself to get a little excited about it now. I really didn’t think it would survive this long.

In addition to my orchid, I was able to take home my latest Sleeping Pear and a pinch pot bowl that were out of the glaze kiln. I only had a couple hours today before needing to take my son to his classmates birthday party. I was able to get some writing in and have a rough outline for my screenplay. Last night at 11:59 they sent out the groups. My genre assignment is horror, with a subject of tax evasion and a character who is a plumber.
I slept on it and had a rough idea this morning but talking it over with my fellow pottery peeps, I left with a new spin on it and a more cohesive idea. I love being in creative environments! I brought my notebook with me to the party and worked up some story beats and my characters. Tonight I plugged them into Final Draft and am ready to start typing the first scene of my rough draft. It’s a Lovecraftian inspired horror with a film noir vibe set in 1932 Chicago. My main Character is a Black FBI agent who is assigned to investigate leads in a mob tax evasion case, but discovers more than just tax fraud in the underground sewers of prohibition era Chicago.

I will be at the mid month reception tomorrow 2-4:30 for the Body Eclectic show at Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale. There is supposed to be poetry readings at 3, if you are in the area. I hope to see you there!
