Storm Front over Lake St. Clair, Jacquelyn Block

Today I gathered my blues themed art for submission to the GPAA Blues show. Looking through all my art work often fuels my next project and my phone is full of pictures well suited for pastel work. I decided on the storm clouds That I captured as we high-tailed it back to shore, racing the storm. Weather on the Great Lakes and Lake St. Clair can really turn in an instant so it is good to be vigilant. We spotted the mass of dark skies and clouds moving across the previous clear blue sky and decided to head back home. As the storm moved closer we sped up, hoping to make it before the rains hit us. Just after I took the photo we hit a big wave and I was soaked head to toe. My youngest got some of the wave too and he was NOT amused. Luckily we made it back and as soon as we were safe in the house the rain started coming down in droves.

In my pastel of this memory, I really wanted to capture the dichotomy between the stormy clouds on the left and the clear sky to the right.

Have you ever been caught in a storm while on the water?
