This morning was our zoom studio, but I only had a half hour to spend before taking my daughter to an appointment. I was able to start working on an owl mixed media piece, before leaving it unfinished- a perfect lead in to March’s theme of UFO: UnFinished Objects. After the appointment, I went up to the clay studio and glazed a couple sleepy pears and a sleepy mushroom. Then I started playing with the chunk of clay leftover from all the trimmings from my orchid sculpture.

As I played a torso started to emerge. I decided to follow that through and sculpt a figure. This is something I haven’t done before and I’m excited to continue fine tuning her next visit. I’m liking how she is starting out, but I wasn’t using photo references or a model, so I’ll need to check my proportions. The head looks a little small, but I haven’t added the hair so it may just be that.

I got enough done on my owl that I could make a filtered light edit of it. Tonight may be a late night for me as I really want to get a good chunk of my editing done for my screenplay. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day- I have intake for the Portrait Parlor show at Posterity Gallery in the morning and after that we are taking my cello out to the luthier for some adjustments. That’s a hour plus drive each way plus the waiting time while he makes the adjustments. My brother-in-law’s shop is out that way so we will stop for a visit and to exchange a few art pieces. I have fresh things for him to display on his walls.

Sunday I drop off my first batch of works to be displayed as a member of Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale. I know I want to bring some of my pastels, but I am having a hard time narrowing down what to bring. But I get to rotate a fresh set ever month so I will get a chance to show all my babies eventually. I’m super excited for this upcoming year I’ve committed to at Lawrence Street and hope that I’ll make some nice sales.
What are you excited about for next month and beyond?
