Today I finished my female figure sculpture that I started last week. I probably should have pulled up some reference photos, or even just looked at my own hand, to help make sure my proportions were correct, but I just winged it. It didn’t occur to study my own hand to figure out how long the thumb is in proportion to the fingers until I was home for a bit.

After finishing her, I decided to use up my old clay to make some small figurines. I started with a little hen. Then a duck. Then another hen. After that I decided to make a tiny pear. I wondered if I could make a small little face on it and have it turn out decent. I often struggle with carving faces on tiny things. I figured that if it didn’t work I could just smother it out and have a plain pear. I was surprised how much I loved that tiny little face.

I made three more little pears before the studio was closing for the evening. I like them all but that first one is my favorite.
What is a thing do you do that’s unique to you and you just love making?
