Afternoon Pear on a Plate, Jacquelyn Block

Today I was a busy bee again. Buzzing from one activity to the next. I was tired this evening but determined to make a new pastel practice painting- this time with PanPastels and tinted paper. The maroon paper really helps the pear to pop off the page. I was going for a companion piece to my Pear on a blue plate, but the PanPastel give a much softer effect and they look pretty distinctive. This one has a lot less abstract quality, although it is far from realistic.

Early today I was at the intake for the two shows at GPAA this month. I have a filtered light piece in the Blues show and my first pastel painting of the red winged black bird as well as a mixed media forest scene. I can really see the difference between my earlier pastels and now, even though it’s not quite a month since I started experimenting with the soft pastel medium.

Do you prefer the softer look of the PanPastels to the harder lines of the Nupastel sticks?
