Poppies on a Windy Afternoon, Jacquelyn Block

I decided I like how vibrant the Inktense sticks get on the canvas when I draw with them dray then activate with water at the end. It’s fun too. The movement of the water and how its blends is very dynamic and unpredictable so I have to be quick and loose with my painting. That lent itself perfectly to these poppy flowers. I took a photo of them growing in my mom’s neighbor’s garden last summer and the wind was blowing them around in the Live Photo. I tried to capture their movement in this painting.

Tomorrow is the Portrait Parlor show reception at Posterity Gallery if you are in the Grosse Pointe area tomorrow between 5-7. see my sleepy pears and my face wall sculptures along with other area artists’ interpretations of the Portrait.

Do you prefer realistic paintings or loose abstractions of the subject?
