Pear on new paper, Jacquelyn Block

Today was my first shift as a gallery attendant at Lawrence Street Gallery. It was an exciting day, as we had a proposal in the gallery. It was the first proposal I’ve been involved with save my own. It was so sweet- I admit that I cried.

While we were slow I worked on a few watercolor paintings using the dollar store paper. It is certainly a step down from the 300lb cotton rag I’m used to but at 12.5 cents per sheet it is worth the effort to figure the best techniques to use it.

I painted my go to pear first and I struggled with using too much water. I think it turned out decent but the paper is quite warped. The next painting I used less water and that helped a bit with keeping the details. It still warped like crazy. I’ll have to flatten these if I’m going to frame them to sell. It might be better served as a personal sketch book , we will see.

Tomorrow is the Mid-month Reception for the Vital Signs show and I have three poems prepared to read. If you are in the Ferndale area tomorrow between 2-4:30 be sure to stop by for the art, poems, snacks and wine. And it is free parking on Sundays!

What is the most exciting thing that happened this week for you?
