Majestic View, Jacquelyn Block

I decided I wanted to play with my pastels today and was flipping through my photos looking for a floral picture to paint. Instead I came across a picture of a small watercolor abstract landscape I painted a few years ago and sold at my front yard art sale. I had been playing with the colors in a new palette and incorporated them into imagined scenes. I thought this particular one might translate well to pastel, and I decided to go bigger. This is an 11×14 where as the original watercolor was a 4×6.

I live in south east Michigan. We have no mountains. No hills. But ever since I was a child I have loved painting mountains on my horizon.

What landscape features do you love to paint that aren’t native to your area?
