Today’s challenge prompt was indoor cactus. My first thought was the cactus I had as a kid. That one I don’t have a picture reference, so I went with the second image that popped into my head. In the gathering space at my church is a beautiful Christmas cactus. Father Jim was alway so proud of it and would update us all when it bloomed. This past December my kids were helping decorate and I saw that the cactus was again in bloom. I made my kids pose for me in front of the plant.
I was working my shift today at Lawrence Street Gallery and decided to paint today’s prompt. I pieced together a sketch from several photos as I had my kids standing in front of it for the photographs. I was able to get a pretty good sketch using this method.

I love lilac blossoms so I had to take pictures of my mom’s neighbors deep purple blooms. My lilacs were completely removed last fall instead of the trim to which I agreed. I was so bummed when I went back to check them this spring.
What are some favorite spring flowers that you look forward to seeing each year?
