Twilight snowman, Jacquelyn Block

I decided to take a break from the flower paintings today. My priority this morning was to complete my 4” square Winter themed painting for our library’s Tiny Art show. Last year was the first one they did, and I painted cherry blossoms for the Think spring theme. For the “Winter Wonderland” theme, I wanted to do a snowman since my youngest is dreaming of snow so we can build one. So far this year the snow has been too powdery or too wet for a good snowman build. I checked my acrylic paint stash and found the paints that came with last year’s kit- this year they gave you the canvas and no paint. It was a limited selection but brown, red, blue, purple, and peach seemed like I could pull off a sunset snow scene so I gave it a try.

Since the canvas was so small, I had it pretty close to my face while I was painting. It was ok, but I wasn’t really happy with how it turned out. I set it down and cleaned out my brushes, and when I came back I saw it from a distance and liked it much better. I’m now happy with how it turned out. My boys also each made one and I’ll be dropping them off at the library tomorrow.

Interrupted, Jacquelyn Block

Since I finished this little painting before our club’s zoom paint-together started I was able to complete a second piece. I decided to make an abstract watercolor, using a lot of red- our theme for the month of February.

This winter has been an odd one here. For as warm as it’s been, we’ve gotten a decent amount of snow. It just doesn’t stick around for long. Have you had a lot of snow this year?
