Summertime, Jacquelyn Block

This morning when I woke up I checked my painting even before I made my first cup of coffee. It was finally dry! After making my husband his special Father’s Day Café Mocha à la Jackie, and myself a coffee, I started to remove all the salt. This is the first time I’ve used salt with acrylic inks so it was a much more involved process than with strait watercolor. The salt, though, left an interesting texture both visually and physically, especially on the areas with the white india ink.

This evening, as I mentioned yesterday, I used some of the process pictures I took and composited them with the finished painting.

I think the experiment was a success and I will use this process in future art works, playing around with different objects to lay on the under painting.

Did you celebrate Father’s Day in any special way today?

    Hello there!

I tried using salt with my watercolors, but without success. Your piece looks unique!

I didn’t celebrate Father’s Day, but I took advantage of the beautiful weather we had.

Thanks! My success with salt is usually hit or miss, often in correlation with my patience. This is definitely one of my better results.
